Well, the thread took place quite recently on pear-general. Somehow around
Januar 14 2004. Have a look at:

Maybe, if you have some suggestions to propose / contribute, leave the proposer
a message. Would love to see an Excel_Reader someday ... Afaik he intends to
base his work on the OpenOffice-sources for handling Excel-files.
