It does not work.
I installed the date package because is a dependancy for the calendar
package.
My problem is that I cannot see the calendar package in the list returned by
the web pear installer.
Is there any other way to install it?

try with
$pear install Calendar
The package is installed under /pear/Calendar,
not under /pear/Date...
