Hi all,
The next release of PEAR, 1.3.1, will include PEAR_ErrorStack. I've marked it as stability level alpha and experimental only because I want to leave the door open for any needed refactoring when the problems of working with PHP 5 exceptions is better understood. It has full documentation at http://pear.php.net/manual/en/core.pear.pear-errorstack.php, and full unit tests, which can now be installed by doing a checkout of
cvs -d pserver:cvs.php.net:/repository co php-src/PEAR/tests
and running
pear install package-PEARtests.xml
tests for PEAR_ErrorStack are, like other packages I maintain, designed to be run in a web browser through tests/PEAR_ErrorStack/testsuite.php
I would like to know any design issues you run up against when trying to use this new error handling stack, and also any potential bugs you encounter. It should be absolutely rock solid in terms of bugs, I tested every conceivable input and output, but you never know :). One thing it does not do is check all of the inputs on your end, meaning that in order to keep it lean and mean, basic input checking is bypassed. It would be nice to know how much difficulty you encounter in debugging due to this, and whether it might be nice to have a slower debug version which can be used for tracking typo errors.
Otherwise, kick it around and I'd love to hear any flaws you find.
Regards,
Greg
