I edited my PEAR configuration using: "pear config-set php_dir /usr/local/php" I restarted Apache and loaded a page on which I was working, but the page failed to load, and my apache log showed this error: "... [error] PHP Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required 'HTML/QuickForm.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php/lib/php') ..." So I hand edited /usr/local/php/etc/pear.conf, which indeed still read: "... s:7:"php_dir";s:22:"/usr/local/php/lib/php"; ..." again, I restarted apache, but the log continued to show the same error, as above. Finally, I tried adding: "ini_set('include_path', '.:/usr/local/php');" To the page on which I was calling HTML_QuickForm, and everything worked. My questions are: why the command line config-set and the text file pear.conf are out of sync with one another? Why does neither seem to control the actual include path? Mark
