Hi, I have some troubles installing PEAR on win98se, with PHP 4.2.3. The go-pear.php script runs fine, just the generated pear.bat which is making problems. The problems are: 1. pear.bat won't detect the env variables it needed, such as PHP_PEAR_INSTALL_DIR and prints error, which prints the constents of those variables, and surprise-surprise, the variables are all correct. I've hacked pear.bat to drop env var detection and it runs. 2. parsecmd.php and getopt.php complains that it couldn't read argv. I've verified that register_argc_argv option in php.ini is turned on. So how I supposed to install new packages if simple commands like 'pear list' is failing? 3. One other thing that's getting on my nerve, pear.bat/go-pear.php is always creating pear.ini on \php4 subdir when all should be in \php subdir (the php installation dir is \php, thus the script will always create \php4 subdir and store pear.ini there). Where does this command originated? FYI, I'm using win98se with PHP 4.2.3 (no intention of upgrading it sometime soon). The scripts are run both under 4DOS and MSDOS prompt.Hi there, You've got that legacy system problem going on here :) There are several potential fixes, but PHP no longer supports Windows 98 in version 5.0 (this was very recently decided), so you'll have to continue to apply these fixes on upgrade. Fortunately, since it only affects pear.bat, it shouldn't be much of a hassle. Since you found a fix for #1, that should work for you For #2, remove this -d register_argc_argv = On There appears to have been a bug in PHP 4.2 that prevents this from working for some reason. For #3, I am not an expert on go-pear.php, so perhaps someone else can field that one Regards, Greg
