How do I get pear working ?

Hi List,
I have been asked by one of my users if pear is installed and I have checked
and I am glad to say it is.
But what do I or my user have to do to get it working. Do I set a ..htaccess
as the manual says with the include_path set to where the DB.php script is ?
If so do one of you have a working example of .htaccess file with the php
include_path as I can not work it out.
Or can anyone help with some advice on how to get me user able to use pear.
