I think the core of performance question is the use of
any kind of script languaje for batch processes.
I try many variants of script-solutions and finaly I
generate CSV file from what have to be imported
(well... I generaly receive some sort of ASCII data,
don't generating anything), translate the data with
awk and insert it in the tables using mysqlimport (or
something similar in other databases)
With that, I pass from 15 to 2 minutes in an importing process.
