it's the end of the day on my side of the ocean so i guess i'm not
seeing straight anymore. This is what i read in the 'somewhat bigger
quickform tutorial':

the following would make more sense to me but that does not work either...
$uploadForm->setDefaults(array('sex'=>'m'));
