DB Issues

I am new to the list and I am an avid PEAR user. I have recently upgraded
all of my PEAR packages, including DB and now my applications are all
broken. I was originally using DB-1.3 and with the new DB-1.6, I cannot get
DB working. I was under the impression that PEAR packages were intended to
be backwards compatible and I'm not using any strange configurations in my
applications. Is DB not backwards compatible?
