Thanks for all your advises,
I'm ok with the fact that PHP 4.0.3 is totally outdated, even poor shared hosting solutions provide at least PHP 4.1, but this man is a "genius", so he simply believes he's right.
I'll try to make him change at least his PEAR packages.
thanks again for you answers.

PHP 4.0.3 is out-of-date for YEARS now. Maybe you could try to convince the ISP to upgrade or convince your client to move to an up-to-date provider. If this is not possible and you run into problems with missing functions, take a look at PEAR::PHP_Compat: http://www.go-pear.org/package/PHP_Compat Regards, TorstenI have a problem with the installation of the site I developped for a client. His hosting provider runs a PHP 4.0.3pl1 version, with 2000' aged PEAR libraries. I'm having problems with my site running on this configuration. For example, the PEAR DB version does not support "numrows", a shame ... Can someone advise me off most compatible and powerfull version of PEAR and PEAR DB for this version of PHP. I'm really lost there ... any help is welcomeYou can use your current versions of PEAR along with your product. Just upload the PEAR packages you use to the web server (preferrably into a protected directory) and set the inlcude path accordingly. No need to rely on the ISP's outdated packages.
