Usually u catch the onsubmit- or onmousedown-event and add an attribute
named "disabled" to the button :
function disableButton()
{
document.getElementById("butt").disabled = true;
}
<form ...onsubmit="disableButton()">
<input id="butt" type="submit" value="Send data">
</form>
