Installing PEAR packages on remote host?

Hi All,
I'd like to leverage some of the packages in the PEAR repository, but I'm
not sure if it's going to be a frustrating experience since I don't have
admin privileges etc for my remote host. I can load anything I like on my
local machine, but am only able to FTP files to my remote host.
Do the PEAR packages in general require anything more than require /
includes?
