HTML_Menu, items besides links

I have been looking around in the HTML_Menu source and am just wondering if my idea is already possible. I am planning on building a menu that has links as well as a search box or two (it will be dynamically created using DB_NestedSet). Does HTML_Menu automatically enclose all the items (this is for a row style) with anchor tags, or is there a way to tell it not to, such as not giving a url? I haven't tried this idea to see if I am right or wrong. Does anyone have an idea? To clarify, is every item in HTML_Menu (row style) enclosed with anchor tags or can I turn them off sometimes (such as for a simple select box in the menu)?
