Blank index.php page after install(?)

I am new to Pear, I'm using the PHP installer on Windows inlcuded with PHP5.
After the install the webfrontend page (index.php in the main dir) is blank.
I beleive some pear "tests" are working but I wanted to manage packages.
Also, if I try the commandline installer I get php4ts.dll could not be
found - it should be asking for php5ts.dll I would think
I would appreciate any advice. Thanks.
