You have to make it a group of elements, so that they are rendered in one place.
Here's my code:
// $g = array ();
$g[] =& $form->createElement ( 'radio', 'show', null, 'Yes',
'Y' );
$g[] =& $form->createElement ( 'radio', 'show', null, 'No',
'N' );
$form->addGroup ( $g, 'radShow', 'Display:' );
