Indeed it does sound like a coding bug, and of course it is...
Simple fix:
The context on the line that fails reads:
138: $dataset->_reset();
139: while ($point = $dataset->_next()) {
140: $totalY += $point['Y'];
141: }
Simply add the following:
138: $totalY = 0;
139: $dataset->_reset();
130: while ($point = $dataset->_next()) {
141: $totalY += $point['Y'];
142: }
