First of all, thank you Bertrand and others who resolved this issue. This is a SHINING example of how open source support *should* work - many people helping one.

For those who cannot up the memory limit, if the xmlrpc php extension is enabled, memory usage drops dramatically. However, in this particular case it should be noted that for large projects, phpDocumentor use (not installation) can require upwards of 1 GB of memory, depending on how much code you are parsing. For the average small project, it will not require more than a few megabytes. If you find your running time gets up to near half an hour, make sure you have enough memory (in windows xp, ctrl-alt-delete brings up the task information box. Don't try that key combo in windows 98 or lower :)It's a memory limit from php. You could change it in the config files I think. (but then all php scripts get it ;)That worked for me. Just edited php.ini for the installation.
He means windows users. I prefer "MS slave" myself. GregThus, you could transform the pear.sh, adapt php to be : php -d max_execution_time=2000 -d memory_limit=80M (you don't need to extend time limit, it's just for example) Hmm... perhaps somebody konws how to tell that directly to pear.sh I'm sorry for you MS fans !MS fan???
