Where does pear get it's list of packages from?

Subject: Where does pear get it's list of packages from?

when I run "pear list" where does it get that list from? The reason I ask is because when I do "pear list", it's showing "DB 1.6.8" is installed, but when I try to uninstall the package with pear uninstall, it says that the package is not installed. Thanks, Brent
