PEAR Extentions

In short: --------- I have downloaded the fileinfo module source and would like to know how I can compile it for use as a PHP extension. In Full: -------- I am in the process of looking at IMP webmail and one of the recommended pre-requisites before installing is that it requires the PECL module fileinfo. The documentation suggests that the following command should install the module; pear install fileinfo The message returned is; No release with state equal to: 'stable' found for 'fileinfo' I then looked at the source code for fileinfo after downloading it from the pecl.php.net website. But could not find any documentation on how to make this into a PHP .so extension file which can then be stored in the /usr/lib/php/extension directory. Thank you in advance.
