Short answer: use the PEAR installer. That's what it's there for.
Unzipping all of this and putting it in the dirs is not recommended
and is very hard to support (hence very little support). If you really
want to do it manually try looking at the package.xml for *each
package you want to install* and figuring out where the files should
go.
