I'd not heard of PDO until this post. :-) Looking it over, it seems that it covers the same features and "raison d'etre" as DB and MDB. So is it intended to replace those modules, thus moving such functionality down a level into the C (or whatever) modules for better speed? Or am I misunderstanding its role and relationship to DB/MDB? Perhaps one of the devs can explain how these parts are all expected to fit together.I don't believe PDO is meant to replace DB and its certainly not meant to replace MDB, since MDB does datatype abstraction and its already been said, I believe, that PDO will not do datatype abstractions. I believe PDO is merely meant to unify the database APIs. -ryan

Release notes ------------- Warning: this release features numerous BC breaks to make the MDB2 API be as similar as possible as the ext/pdo API! The next release is likely to also break BC for the same reason.
