Place the following override on a line in your .htacess situtated in your home (ala index.php) dir:
php_value register_globals "Off"
I also have things like:
# Auth Session persistence
php_value session.save_path "./session"
#NOTE: be mindful that on Unix the include_path separator is a ":" and windows its a
";"
# My own Pear to supercede the ISP's and also to share amongst more than one hosted project:
php_value include_path ".:/includes:./pear:./smarty/libs:./etc"
