quickform: URL GET parameters lost during validation - causing errors

The code snippets below are for a form. If it's not
filled in correctly, it validates properly but loses
the URL parameter. I use the URL parameter in the
processing code after validation. I need that url
parameter.
The error is that it can not find the $k_ID and DB
error.
Any ideas?
$form = new HTML_QuickForm('form1');
$k_ID = $_REQUEST['k']; //url parameter
...
$form->addElement('hidden', 'KPPO_ID', $k_ID);
...
function process_data ($values) {
$sql_statement = "SELECT ... WHERE ID = " .
$values['KPPO_ID'];
...
}
