problems with TSL 2.2, PHP5 & PEAR

Im testing Trustix Secure Linux 2.2 and I have serios problems with the version of the
PHP (5) that the distro includes, many problems mostly related with deprecated code style
or directly no more supported way to write an instuction. In the TSL list, many people
just drop PHP 5 and figures out how to return to PHP4.
Before messing with that, there is any way to make a pacific coexistence between PEAR and
PHP 5?
