Fantastic - that's how it should work, glad to hear that folks with early PEAR versions won't hose their PEAR installation by upgrading to 1.4.0a11 :). As for your issues, for others facing the problem, you can also install directly from url as in: $ pear upgrade http://pear.php.net/get/PEAR-1.3.5.tgz Greg
