QFC - Determine calling page

Hi All I'd like to determine the calling (QFC) page of the current QFC page. I have a multipage form built using Quickform Controller. It has Previous/Next buttons to aid navigation. 'page 1' asks the user for an account_name 'page 2' takes what was given in 'page 1' and creates an entry in the database 'page 3' continues on with further details relevant to the account If the user goes from 'page 1' to 'page 2', I want to create the new account, but not from 'page 3' to 'page 2'. How can I tell from what direction I've arrived at 'page 2' ? Is this the correct approach or should I just check for the existence of a value in the container ? Thanks Mike
