QuickForm_HTML addRule() and regex question

I am using this code to test for a valid URL:
$form->addRule('linkURL', 'URL is not valid', 'regex', '/^(http|https):\/\/[a-z0-9]+([\-\.]{1}[a-z0-9]+)*\.[a-z]{2,5}((:[0-9]{1,5})?\/.*)?$/i');
But it does not seem to do any validation.
Is there something wrong with it?
