template display problem

I have installed and configured the template system. I am having trouble
getting Lynx (text based browser) to parse the template fields and fill them
in with the desired nfo. Has anyone ever gotten smarty or the integrated
templates http://pear.php.net/package/HTML_Template_IT/
to work with lynx or
another text based browser?
