Duplicate fields overwritten

MYSQL 3.23, DB 1.3
I have two tables with the same field names. When I do a getAll($query) I
am seeing only the field from the second table, and it is overwriting the
first one. I have tried DB_FETCHMODE_ASSOC also.
When I run the query directly with mysql_query, then I get both fields.
Is this expected behavior?
