Mail_mime: How encode with UTF-8 charset?

Hi
When sending HTML mail I did not find out how to set the character set to UTF-8. While for plain text messages I can easily set
$headers['Content-Type'] = 'text/plain; charset=UTF-8';
this does not work for mime mail. I ended up changing lines 116 to 123 in the Mail_mime constructor to
$this->_build_params = array(
'text_encoding' => '7bit',
'html_encoding' => 'quoted-printable',
'7bit_wrap' => 998,
'html_charset' => 'UTF-8',
'text_charset' => 'UTF-8',
'head_charset' => 'UTF-8'
);
I hope there is a more appropriate way to go?
