MDB2 autoExecute type casting on updates

Hello, I'm just starting with MDB2, form the docs of autoExecute I cannot understand if the param $types (which is not mandatory) is important: does MDB2 handle automatically quoting of fields types or should I pass the field types in $types? In the latter case, how could I obtain this array?
