We've been experiencing some problems with MP3 files we've tagged using the PEAR MP3_Id module when trying to play them in Windows Media Player. We already know it is caused by a bug in Windows Media Player, as mentioned here:
http://support.microsoft.com/KB/814129
The bug still exists in the latest version 10 player, and applying the workaround to every player installation is not an option.
Perhaps this is a question that only Alexander Merz (author/lead for MP3_Id, I think) or Sandy McArthur Jr. <Leknor@Leknor.com> (a previous author?) can easily answer, but we're trying to find a way that we can easily make MP3_Id save the tags in a way that is compatible with the bug in Windows Media Player. We realize fully that it may mean that it would be implementing a less than desirable behavior if it used the synchronization bit in something other than the recommended way. But as long as customers will be likely to be using broken versions of Windows Media Player, we need to provide a file that works for them.
If anyone knows the best way to contact the author(s) or current maintainer, I'm all ears.
If more information about the bug is necessary, I would be happy to answer questions.
Thanks for your help,
Mac
