[NET] [POP3][SMTP] Handling errors

I'm using various NET Pear Packages to test connectivity to various servers
and services on our network.
Is there a way of supressing errors so that it doesn't affect any error
handling on the page when it fails? Similar to the @ calls you can make on
striaght php commands?
