What do you use for encoding. utf-8?
If you want to use Shift_JIS/EUC-JP/UTF-8 (8bit-encoding)
in the Internet-mail, you might convert to ISO-2022-JP(7bit-encoding)
(best way for mail receiver) or encode by MIME/BASE64 (better way).
cf. PHP - Multi-Bytes String Functions

I don't know the PEAR very well. I wonder can use Mail/mime class.
