Hello again.
I have a comment about how post-install scripts are handled by installer.
Basically in order to run post-install script a user need to enter
#pear run-scripts channel/PACHAGE
This has to be typed in separately after the installation of the package.
The problem I see here is that users who are not familiar with pear installer will miss this step and installation will not be complete then.
I think a similar feature on CPAN is implemented in a more user-friendly way.
If the package needs to be configured, then at the end of the installation the prompt automatically appears asking the user if he/she wants to run configuration/
I have not use CPAN in a while, so I don't remember exactly how it's presented.
The feature that I would like to see in pear installer is that if a post install configuration is required then the user is asked a simple question
like: configure a package now: yes/no
then a warning about 'ATTENTION: NEVER RUN SCRIPT FROM UNTRUSTED SOURCE' can be shown.
Also an extra text about what configuration will do will be shown. This can be stored in package.xml
For example:
'In order to finish installation you must setup a database dsn. type 'yes' to start configuration script'
And then after user types 'yes' the post-install script will start.
I think this is more user-friendly than asking user to type run-script channel/PACKAGE
Does this sound like a reasonable feature request for the Installer?
