Hi Wyatt
Although most pear packages can be made to work by manually unpacking
the real power with PEAR is only available when you install them with
the pear installer. The Auth package isn't a very good example of
this (all dependencies except the pear installer are optional) but
many packages rely on several other PEAR packages. The installer will
automatically check what you have installed and if you are missing one
of the dependencies will automatically install it for you.
Daniel O'Connor mentioned
http://rudyegenias.wordpress.com/2006/10/06/installing-pear-packages-on-xampp/
which may be of some help to you in getting PEAR set up on your
system. I haven't personally used xampp but found it to be far more
complex with wampserver which is very similar. I would give it a try
and if you have any problems you can get back in touch.
What have you been doing after unpacking it? The documentation for
the Auth package, which is definitely the best place to start, is very
good. http://pear.php.net/manual/en/package.authentication.auth.intro.php
Cheers
Jonathan
p.s. When you're replying can I ask that you reply to all. I know
how easy it is to just go straight to the basic reply option in gmail
but replying to all adds the discussion to the mailing list which can
be searched by other people looking for solutions later on.
