Notices on log from DB MySQL module

On every single database operation whatsoever, I get
[12-Dec-2002 10:30:16] PHP Notice: mysql_escape_string is deprecated; use
mysql_real_escape_string() instead in
/home/mark/apache/php/lib/php/DB/mysql.php on line 667
On the PHP error log. This is spamming the log and hiding real errors.
Can it be (or is it) fixed?
