Well, have you ever considered XML-RPC. The basics of XML-RCP and SOAP are mostly the same. Both use
xml serialisation for both requests and responses.
XML-RPC is somewhat more supported than SOAP. XML-RPC is a much simpeler form of SOAP.
For simple data transfers i recommend XML-RPC. For complex transfers like objects (multitable
datasets, etc) please use SOAP.

PEAR provide both XML-RPC as SOAP packages. I believe there's even a PECL extension for SOAP,
but i don't think that one is stable yet by looking at the TODO list. Lot's of works needs
to be done ;-)
As a last remark which shouldn't be taken too serious:
I can understand the combination of C# or VB with .NET. But C++ and .Net i don't understand.
From the beginning VB was converted to p-code which needed the runtime libraries to run the program.
C# is just a javascript inplementation for .NET. Because of the OOP capabilities the name javascript
couln't be used. C and C++ were already taken, so that leaves C# ;-)
But C++ was always a compiled binary which normaly runs standalone. So why compiling C++ code to
CLR-code. And why isn't CLR-code compiled to real binaries. Things would be than a lot faster.
Well, as you might have noticed i'm not a real .NET fan. I had to use it a few times for a
customer which had seen the .NET commercial from M$ ;-(
