Well, some benchmarks were run and indeed they showed that ADODB is a bit
faster than PEAR::DB.
Now, your friend is saying that you can always code something that better
suits your needs and does it faster. This is true for everything, projects
tend to be "iwant-it-all-for-yesterday-at-no-cost" type of thing. In that
case recoding everytthing makes no sense. YOu use a library for the ease it
brings you, if one prefers to recode everything then one should just do it
;))
Pear::Db is not that difficult to learn, i've never used adodb but i expect
to take a tiny bit of time to learn, as any library.
As to the argument that ADODB is used in a commercial product hence the
better quality does not stand imho. Many pear libraries are here because
people use them at their work, in production. Some people may even develop
them for commercial products afaik. That said, do not mistake me, i'm not
saying one has a higher quality then the other and vice-versa ;)
Arnaud.
