Hi,
What is it that you want to achieve with the abstraction layer?
PEAR actually has 2 abstraction layers and 2 query builders that run on
top of them.
If you tell us a little bit more about your needs we can help you more.
As a general comment: The native API's are usually a bit more klunky to
use over the abstraction layers. So generally once you have familiarized
with the abstraction layer of your choice you should be more productive
in terms of code. However you are limiting yourself in the use of very
RDBMS specific features. However you can still use them if needed, but
it does sort of defeat the purpose of the abstraction layer. Also
abstraction layers do have a considerable overhead. But usually this is
insicnificant compared to the actual time it takes the RDBMS to perform
a query.
