Dear Group,
I've searched pear.php.net and the archives here and not found an answer.
PEAR seems very complicated to install if you are running PHP 4.1.
My goal is to get PEAR and PEAR:DB installed on my VPS (Virtual Private
Server). It is required to run PHPaga.net. I think I have PEAR installed,
but am not sure how to test it. I also attempted to install PEAR:DB and it
is not installed. Here are the steps I took.
Upgraded PHP via vinstall (a VPS option) from 4.1 to 4.3. It broke my
www.open-realty.com installs, so had to roll it back to 4.1. 4.3 would have
been ideal, since it has both PEAR and PEAR:DB.
Tried to install PEAR from the command line using
lynx -source http://go-pear.org | php
as detailed on
http://pear.php.net/manual/en/installation.getting.php
, but received the
error "php: Command not found." I think this is because CLI (Command Line
Interface) isn't enabled in PHP 4.1.
So I copied in the most recent version of PEAR from
http://pear.php.net/package-info.php?pacid=14
to /usr/local/lib/php and
unzipped it, which placed a package.xml file in that directory, and created
a subdirectory called PEAR-1.0.1 with some more files and several
subdirectories. This is the same location that the lead developer of
phpaga.net manually installed PEAR.
Then I added the below to my php.ini file at /usr/local/lib on the first
line under Paths and Directories:
include_path = /usr/home/roatan/usr/local/lib/php/PEAR-1.0.1
; UNIX: "/path1:/path2" Windows: "\path1;\path2"
Which showed up in my test.php file as:
include_path
/usr/home/roatan/usr/local/lib/php/PEAR-1.0.1
/usr/home/roatan/usr/local/lib/php/PEAR-1.0.1
But the top of the test.php file still indicates '--without-pear'
PHPaga requires PEAR:DB so I downloaded the most recent version from
http://pear.php.net/package-info.php?pacid=46
and copied it into
/usr/local/lib/php/PEAR-1.0.1 but I'm not sure that is where it should be.
Then I tried to install that using the Semi-automatic installation
instructions at the bottom of
http://pear.php.net/manual/en/installation.cli.php
which should be in this case, "pear install DB-1.3.tgz" from the command
line, it didn't work, probably, once again, because of no CLI support.
That's where I am at this point. I think if I can get PEAR and the module
PEAR:DB installed, then I can install PHPaga. Please let me know if more
details are needed.
Best regards,
Steve
