dataObject fetch all?

Hy everybody!
How do I fetch all results when I'm using dataObjects.
neither :
$artists = new Object_artist;
$artists -> find();
while( $artists->fetch() ){
..
}
nor:
$artists = new Object_artist;
$artist = $artists -> query("select * from ".$artists->__table);
while( $artist -> fetch() ) {
...
}
worked for me. Pleas help me out this simple question.
