Looking again at WebFX and dynamically retrieving tree nodes to generate a js tree menu, I think the way to go would be to query a node and get the children back as an xml stream.
Each node would have a URI like http://site.com/script.php?action=getChildren&nodeID=23
The WebFX class uses an XmlHttp js object with a URI as the arg to get additional nodes.
Not sure which of the tree packages would be most amenable to this approach, however it could be the way forward for presenting large structures as menus.
cheers,
Demian

So I was wondering if the dynamic flag meant that when you expanded nodes (with children but not loaded on the page) it could either (a) refresh the page - or (b) pull the data into a iframe or something and add the data from there...well, my suggestion here might not be *the* solution. but what i am doing is put the tree in an external php-generated js-file, which is included and cached by the browser, so you only send a 304 when the tree has not changed (quite easy using HTTP_Header_Cache) might be an option for you Alan
