NEWBIE : DB::disconnect for Postgresql returns error

I cannot get the disconnect function to work for PostrgreSQL while using the PEAR extension. I use DB::disconnect() and get the message that I make a call to an undefined function . I can conenct and run queries though .
All help appreciated.
