Hi everyone,
I'm currently working on a PHP implementation of ZPT (Zope Page
Templates).
This implementation follows TAL/METAL/I18N specifications.
For those who don't now TAL :
TAL is the Template Attribute Language originaly developped in python by
Zope community (http://www.zope.org).
This template system has lot of fans and is implemented in python, perl,
java (and now PHP)
Non exhaustive feature list for ZPT:
- wysiwyg template editing, template orders are stored in attributes,
- internationalization support (i18n attributes) with variable
interpolation,
- template macros definition (kind of template functions),
- xpath like data access,
- error detection system,
- easy call to underlying language (PHP in our case)
TAL is a template designer oriented system, they can start templating
without worrying about php data representation and can show templates
to clients even if nothing is coded yet.
PHPTAL is in beta version and i plan to release it on PEAR site as soon
as possible, if nobody is against another template engine. (yes i know,
but believe me, this one is a very cool one, TAL guys have done a very
good job :)
PHPTAL generate php intermediate code.
As template output caching is critical, PHPTAL allow coders to decide what
to cache and how to cache it through the PHPTAL_Cache interface. Thus, you
can use any existing cache system at different execution levels.
I'd like interested people and one or two PEAR veterans to send me their
feeling about this project.
We still have more tests to do to reach a stable release, but the project
is in good way as is quite stable.
I'm looking for bugs, TAL/METAL/I18N implementation problems, whish list,
etc...
You'll find PHPTAL here :

best regards and good TAL
laurent
