Well currently development on this tool is some what stalled. Please
contact the author if you are interested in helping or send a
proposal/patch to pear-dev.

IIRC this is already possible adjust this in the conf section "Preferred
Package State:"
Set that to "alpha"

I doubt that this feature is planned.
And unless someone with immediate interest steps up and writes the code
I don't see it happening soon.
