Hello everyone,
as I said in a previous message I have PEAR working (seemingly) perfect
in an Windows NT and IIS4. (I'm talking about the web installer, I have
not tried the cli interface)
After trying to follow the documentation I had to throw it again and do
the following.
1) with a web browser go to http://go-pear.net
2) save the page as go-pear.php in a directory accesible by your
webserver. In IIS under the webroot directory.
2) Prepare the parent directory of where Pear will be installed (such as
C:\PHP\ if you are going to install in C:\php\pear), giving permissions
to the webserver user (IUSR_WHATEVER, I don't remember the exact name)
to write in that directory (I'm using NTFS, and PHP, which is beeing
executed as the user IUSR_WHATEVER, needs permision to create the pear
directory,...).
Note: If you use apache you will have to know as which user it is beeing
executed to asign the proper permissions.
3) point a browser to the previously saved go-pear.php and follow its
instructions, it's straightforward and, by the way, has a very nice
appearance.
That's about it. Well mostly. As I said, I installed Pear in
C:\PHP\Pear, and this directory is not accessible by the web-server. In
the installation a file index.php is created (I don't remember if it was
in c:\php or in c:\php\pear) and I had to move it to a directory (such
as c:\inetpub\webroot\pear\index.php)
Then you can browse the available packages, information,... just by
pointing to your favourite browser to the appropiate url (for example
http://localhost/pear )
The problem I had is that my webroot directory is in a different drive
than the pear installation and installing new packages did not work. A
proposed solution is some messages ago in a message titled something
like "Why strip drive letters from pear installer" by myself.
I have tried installing and unistalling several packages and it seems to
work flawlessly.
Hope it helps,
Marcos
