Problem with PEAR::DB and firebird

I have a strange issue with firebird. Using getAll with PEAR::DB returns:
warning: ibase_fetch_object(): supplied argument is not a valid interbase
result resource in /usr/lib/php/DB/ibase.php on line 192
This is on Gentoo using PHP 4.3.1.
Running the same code on Debian stable with PHP 4.1.2 (but using PEAR from
4.2.3) runs with no problem at all.
Any ideas ?
