Informix and DB

We are in the process of porting our system from PostgreSQL to Informix. We are currently using PEAR::DB with PostgreSQL and are quite happy with it. The description of PEAR::DB states that informix is currently supported. But we have had problems. I can connect to the informix db all right, but when I want to manipulate fields of the type "text" (which informix treats as blob's), I get the error: [SQLSTATE=00 000 SQLCODE=-611] Scroll cursor can't select blob columns. And that's just for starters. We have also tried ADODB, also with little success. Is there anyone out there that has experience in using PEAR DB with Informix, or even better, experience in porting from PostgreSQL to Informix?
