I got it working. I had two versions of PHP on my system. The one that came with OS X and Aaron Faby's package (http://www.aaronfaby.com/php4.php). The PEAR installer was finding the old include and libs in /usr whereas the later version was installed in /Library/PHP4. I moved the old files and created new links:
ln -s /Library/PHP4/include/php/ /usr/include/php
ln -s /Library/PHP4/lib/ /usr/lib/php
Reinstalled. Everything seems to run ok.
Thanks for everyones help.
/Paul

It seems to compile OK but when I run php I get the following error: Failed loading /Library/PHP4/bin/apd.so: not a Mach-O MH_BUNDLE file typeI'm just shooting in the dark here, but I think that might indicate you need to compile something. Where did apd.so come from?
